Hey UPEI, Timothy here with your day one update from UPEI’s New Student Orientation 2009.
First just let me say, what a day! It sure was nice to welcome the new first-year students to UPEI in the glorious sunshine we had today. Our revamped quad and new facilities are always more enjoyable on a sunny summer’s day.
Kickoff day for NSO started early this morning with NSO Leaders and ResLife Coordinators gathering to welcome first-year residence students to campus for their move-in day. As the students settled in, the Leaders got busy turning McMillan Hall in the W.A. Murphy Student”. As morning turned into afternoon, NSOers formed their teams for the weekend and broke off from one another to practice chants and songs that will no doubt be heard across campus during orientation.
After fuelling up at the Registration Blitz BBQ, NSOers met Pride, the UPEI Panther, and got pumped up for the UPEI Women’s Soccer game against UdeM – which our Panthers of course won! From the soccer field, everyone headed to the Alumni Canada Games Place for the Playfair session so they could better get to know other first-year students.
Rounding out a busy first day was Tarzan and Jane’s Jungle Gala Event, a dance party at the Wave with Sunday Punch (pictured) and DJ J-Rod, where everyone could release their inner animal and dance the night away!
I’m sure everyone will be looking forward to another great day tomorrow, which will include my favourite part of NSO – Shinerama. If you see our NSOers around town tomorrow, remember to stop and get your shoes shined or your car washed for a great cause!
Cheers,
Timothy Cullen
